Have you decided to expand your business internationally?

Example 1: your sales team is made up of several sales representatives who all usually work in Belgium. In order to explore the French and Dutch markets before the potential establishment of your activities on site, you hire one Dutch employee and one French employee.

Example 2: one of your employees is moving abroad for personal reasons and wishes to do his work (or part of it) from home.

Example: your products are marketed in several European countries. Your sales team is made up of Account Managers. One of them handles Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg at the same time, and divides his working time between these three countries simultaneously.

Secondment consists of posting an employee to the territory of a country other than the one in which he usually carries out his activities.

Secondment is temporary in principle (limited duration) and can be of 2 types:

1. Secondment of foreign employees in Belgium (Inbound)

Example: the parent company of your group temporarily posts one of its employees for an assignment within its Belgian subsidiary  

2. Secondment of Belgian employees abroad (Outbound)
   
   Example: you send one of your employees abroad to hold a supervising position in your plant based in China for a four-year period. This is called expatriation.
