The qualifying work-based learning and apprenticeship premiums

On 1 September 2023, 2 new premiums for work-based learning will enter into force in Flanders.

The qualifying work-based learning premium: this premium encourages companies to provide a high-quality work-based learning experience with a strong on-the-job component within the context of qualifying training.

The apprenticeship premium for work-linked training: this premium aims to encourage apprentices to successfully complete their work-linked training with a strong on-the-job component.

Qualifying work-based learning premium (for the company)

Conditions:

  • The establishment where the training takes place is located in the Flemish Region.
  • The training takes at least 4 months to complete.
  • It includes an agreement within the framework of a work-linked training secondary education, a dual training in adult education or a graduate training in nursing.
  • The company appoints a tutor.

How to apply:

  • The premium is applied for by registering this agreement with the Department of Work and Social Economy (WSE) of the Flemish Government.

Amount:

  • The premium for the company is € 600 per learner if the learner does not receive an allowance from the company and € 1,000 if the learner does receive an allowance from the company.
  • The premium is paid once per school year. The company may receive the premium a maximum of 3 times per learner.

Apprentice premium (for the apprentice)

Conditions:

  • The apprentice lives in the Flemish Region.
  • The training takes at least 4 months to complete.
  • The apprentice has an agreement within the framework of a work-linked training secondary education: OAO (work-linked training agreement), SAO (work-linked training internship agreement) or part-time employment contract.

How to apply:

  • The premium is applied for by registering this agreement with the Department of Work and Social Economy (WSE) of the Flemish Government.

Amount:

  • The premium for the apprentice is € 500.
  • The premium is paid once per school year. The apprentice may receive the premium a maximum of 3 times.

Source: On 14 July, the Flemish Government gave its final approval to the decree implementing the qualifying work-based learning and apprenticeship premiums.
