For absences in the context of educational leave, the employee is entitled to the payment of his normal wage on the usual dates. However, this wage is limited to a certain amount (except if the employer agrees not to apply this amount).

Until now, this amount was determined each year by royal decree.

As from the 2023-2024 school year, this amount will automatically be indexed on the 1st September of each year, therefore making the publication of a new annual legal text unnecessary. The amount to which the normal wage was caped in the previous school year must be increased of 2% as many times as the smoothed health index has exceeded the trigger index during the period from 1st September to 31st August of the previous school year.

For the 2023-2024 school year (from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024), the amount of this cap is fixed at 3,500 EUR.
