End of economic unemployment 'energy' on 31 March 2023: how to switch to classic economic unemployment?

The temporary economic unemployment scheme ‘energy’ ends on 31 March 2023.

If the employer wishes to switch from the economic unemployment scheme ‘energy’ to the classic economic unemployment scheme as of 1 April 2023, he must comply with the general (classic) rules in force for this type of unemployment.

Two clarifications from the ONEm/RVA should also be taken into account:

  • at the end of the period of economic unemployment ‘energy’, no full-time work regime must be introduced for a full week before a suspension under the classic economic unemployment scheme can take effect;
  • periods of economic unemployment ‘energy’ in 2023 will not be charged on the maximum allowable duration of economic unemployment for non-manual workers (16 or 26 calendar weeks per calendar year depending on whether it is a scheme of complete suspension or a reduced working time scheme).
