On 1 February 2017, the duration of the leave for palliative care was extended to 3 months.
This measure was introduced by the Law on feasible and manageable work.
As a reminder, any worker may suspend the performance of their employment contract in order to assist a person receiving palliative care, i.e. a person in the terminal phase of an incurable disease.
Leave for palliative care may be taken, provided that the worker meets certain conditions, either as a total suspension of work or a reduction of working time to 1/2 or 1/5th of full-time employment.
Regardless of the form in which the leave is taken, its duration is one month per person.
Since 1 February 2017, this period can be extended twice (instead of once) by one additional month. In total, the worker is therefore entitled to take leave for palliative care up to a maximum of 3 months per person (instead of a maximum of two months).
