This measure was announced in the summer and has now been published in the Belgian Official Gazette: from now on, parental leave can also be taken in the form of a reduction of the working hours by 1/10.

However, even if this right enters into force on 6 October 2018, it will not yet be possible to apply it effectively. The Royal Decree with regard to the arrangements for the exercise of the right to parental leave has still to be amended. However, we can assume that the exercise of the right to a reduction of the working time by 1/10 will depend on the agreement of the employer.

We will of course inform you when the expected changes are published in the Belgian Official Gazette.
