Target group reductions in Flanders from 1 July 2024

As we announced in a previous infoflash, the Flemish government is changing some target group reductions on 1 July:

Young workers

Since 1 July 2023, the target group reduction has been applied to low-skilled young workers only. This target group reduction will now be stopped completely from 1 July 2024.

If the worker was recruited before 1 July 2024, the reduction will be retained for the full duration of 8 quarters.

Older workers

The target group reduction for older workers will be terminated. If the worker is at least 62 years of age on 30 June 2024, the reduction will be retained until 30 June 2028 at the latest.

The target group reduction for older non-working jobseekers (58+) will also be terminated. If the worker was recruited before 1 July 2024, the reduction will be retained for the full duration of 8 quarters.

Recent sustainable work experience

The target group reduction for people without recent sustainable work experience is given a broader scope: from 1 July, this target group reduction can be used from the end of part-time compulsory education (in principle 18 years of age) until the statutory retirement age.
