The Wijninckx contribution is a special employer contribution on the payments for supplementary pensions. As from 1 January 2018 it rises from 1.5% to 3%.
The contribution is calculated per employee and per calendar year. It is due when the sum of the payments for supplementary pensions and death cover premiums for a specific employee exceeds the annual threshold.
For 2017 the annual threshold was €31,836.00 (the amount for 2018 is not yet published).
Payments by the employer and the employee are both taken into account to determine the threshold, but the contribution is only calculated on the employer payments.
The contribution is 3% on the amount of the employer contributions that exceeds the annual threshold.
Example (based on the 2017 annual threshold)
Annual payments: €50,000.00 of which €45,000.00 by the employer and €5,000.00 by the employee.
The annual threshold is exceeded by €18,164.00, entirely at the expense of the employer.
Contribution: €544.92 (= €18,164.00 x 3%).
The Wijninckx contribution is declared by the employer in the DmfA of the fourth quarter of the year concerned.
The NSSO validates the declaration on the basis of Sigidis’ Supplementary Pensions Database (DB2P) In this database insurance companies will manage the data on supplementary pensions.
