The Supplementary Apprenticeship Bonus

For the school year 2020-2021, the Flemish Government will grant a supplementary apprenticeship bonus to companies that offer work placements. This supplementary apprenticeship bonus of EUR 1,000 comes on top of the existing apprenticeship bonus and is subject to more flexible conditions.

The apprenticeship bonus

No changes will be made to the existing apprenticeship bonus.

The apprenticeship bonus is a premium for any employer with its registered office in the Flemish Region who trains or employs a young person in the context of dual or alternating training.

The apprenticeship bonus is paid once per school year per employed young person. The employer may receive the bonus a maximum of three times per young person. For the first and second allocation, the bonus will be EUR 500 and for the third allocation it will be EUR 750.

Conditions:

  • the company and the young person have an agreement in the framework of alternance training (alternance training agreement, apprenticeship contract alternance training or part-time employment contract).
  • The young person was trained by an employer in the Flemish Region. 
  • The young person was trained for at least 3 months in your company in the school year for which the apprenticeship bonus is applied for.
  • The young person is under the age of 18 on 1 September of the school year for which the bonus is first applied for. This condition only applies to the first application leading to an approval. Did the young person himself, you or another employer receive a bonus for this young person before? Then the age condition no longer applies.
  • The company applies for the apprenticeship bonus before 31 December after the end of the school year 

New: the supplementary apprenticeship bonus

For the school year 2020-2021, a supplementary apprenticeship bonus may be granted to a company under the following conditions:

  • The young person was trained by an employer in the Flemish Region. 
  • The young person was trained for at least 3 months in your company in the school year for which the apprenticeship bonus is applied for.

The supplementary apprenticeship bonus amounts to EUR 1,000.

The supplementary apprenticeship bonus is granted once per school year for each young person trained by the company. This decision shall take retroactive effect from 1 September 2020.

The supplementary apprenticeship bonus is not taken into account for the determination of the maximum number of apprenticeship bonuses received.
