From 2017, the quota for student employment will be managed in hours rather than in days. In anticipation of a new Dimona application, the reservation of student employment, planned from 2017, is blocked.

Student employment: solidarity contribution

Each year, students are exempt from ordinary contributions for a limited amount of time worked (the so-called quota). This exemption is replaced by a solidarity contribution of 8.13%, of which 2.71% is paid by the student and 5.42% by the employer.

The annual quota

Until the end of 2016, the quota will be 50 days.

From 1 January 2017, the quota will be expressed in hours.

The number of hours has not been finally set yet: it is possible that the original ceiling of 400 hours (= 50 days x 8 hours) is increased to 550 hours (= 50 days x 11 hours).

Reservation in Dimona

The (planned) time worked by the student can be reserved by the employer in a specific Dimona application. For time worked up to 31 December 2016, reservation can still be done in days, for time worked from 1 January 2017, reservation will be done in hours.

The NSSO already anticipates the new situation.

From 1 July 2016, it will no longer be possible to reserve student employment in days if those days are situated after 31 December 2016.

On the other hand, a reservation in hours will only be possible on or about 1 December 2016.

In other words, from July until November 2016, it will not be possible to reserve student employment for time worked from 2017.

Days reserved prior to 1 July and end 2016 that are not converted by the employer himself, will be converted by the NSSO in accordance with rules to be determined.
