The law feasible and flexible work of 5 March 2017, also called the ‘Peeters’ law, has been published today 15 March 2017. Most provisions take effect retroactively from 1 February 2017.

The law feasible and flexible work wants to allow customised work, create a modern work environment adapted to the available new technologies.

Flexible working time arrangements are the law’s central theme. But the law also includes other measures with the aim of a better work-life balance.

The ‘Peeters’ law: 15 measures

The law contains 15 measures. Some measures are directly applicable and others are activated on a sectoral basis.

  1. Annualisation of working time in ‘small flexibility’
  2. ‘Voluntary’ overtime hours
  3. Increase of the internal limit to 143 hours
  4. Reminder of Directive 2003/88/EC of 4 November 2003 concerning certain aspects of the organisation of working time
  5. Training efforts
  6. Provision of a framework for occasional teleworking
  7. Extension of the arrangement ‘plus minus conto’
  8. Possibility to conclude a temporary agency contract for an indefinite period
  9. Career saving
  10. Provision of a framework for gifting leave
  11. Reform of the employer grouping scheme
  12. Simplification of part-time work
  13. Flexitime work schedules
  14. Extension of the leave for palliative care and time-credit
  15. Night work in e-commerce

The legal and practical aspects of each measure will be published in the coming days.
